PBville Once Again

Here we are again in beautiful Leadville and once again, we were welcomed with a downpour that lasted off and on from the time we made it to the top of Independence Pass until early this morning. Thankfully, we were smarter this time around and slept in the car from the get go. Although, the rain pounding on the roof STILL made it nearly impossible to sleep. We toyed at the Molly Brown campground at Turquoise Lake again and had a spot right by the water.
We're back at the coffee shop we came to last year, trying to warm up and recover from trying to make oatmeal and Canadian bacon in the bone chilling wind. I'm sitting here enjoying an American cappuccino with a bacon and cheddar biscuit, and Sasquatch is scarfing down a slab of banana bread with almonds and a LARGE brewed coffee.

Here are a few photos from yesterday's drive and camping spot.

Driving over Independence Pass.

Everything seemed to be glowing that day.

Contemplative....

Looking for a camping spot.

Molly Brown campground, right on Turquoise Lake.

Standing on the shore of the lake, you can just barely see out camp through the trees.

Working on his chainmaille.

My hair looks like it's on fire, ha.

Road Trip 2013: Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's On the Road We Go

Hey there all you attractive mountain folk, this is Sasquatch comin' at you live from the lead mine, Leadville, CO.

So far, so good on this epic trip we have embarked on. I don't have a lot to say about the trip so far except that it is exactly what I've been needing to break up the monotony of day to day life. The first leg of the trip has been pretty awesome. It's been fun watching Buns get all excited about sharing some of her favorite parts of her childhood with me. Leadville is a pretty rad little town. I think I'm going to have to drag my brothers up here for a weekend of debauchery.

Our first night in the surprise tent we discovered in the back of our car was...interesting to say the least. I found that my 6' 1" body does not like to be compacted into a 5'x4' tent with another body and multiple bags. But, I conked out pretty quickly nonetheless. I slept great until I was awoken by the sounds of nature spitting in our faces. After that, the night was filled with tossing, turning, cursing, and trying my hand at the art of contortion. After a long night of no rest, I woke up in a not-so-great mood, but after a delicious breakfast and a little Jim Croce's "Photographs and Memories", I'm convinced that it will be smooth sailing from here on out.

Prepare yourself Wyoming...

Until next time, this is Samsquamtch. Signing off.

Road Trip 2013: Independence Pass-Twin Lakes-Leadville

It's Buns again! Here are our photos from yesterday and this morning of the trip over Independence Pass, stopping in Twin Lakes and our stay in Leadville.

Su Baru or Forester Gump

Our mascot.

Leadville, Colorado. The highest incorporated town in America.

The Silver Dollar Saloon. By the way, Mom, it was disappointing! The Scarlet Tavern was better.

My childhood playground. Hasn't changed a bit.

The house we used to live in, but cuter now.

Me, walking back from our former house.

This was my first chapter book I read in first grade. I was so proud when my teacher sent me to go read a third grade book! I found this at a store in Leadville and had to buy it.

Gifts for my brother and sister that Sasquatch picked out.

A trip to Leadville wouldn't be complete without a stop at Hundley's for candy!

The "scary" town of Red Cliff. It was a bunch of TOTALLY Colorado people, Mom, haha.

My dream catcher I bought in Steamboat Springs
